M. R. Poovamma Biography 
M. R. Poovamma is an Indian athletic and Olympian who participates in 400 metres sprint event. This Indian sprinter hails from Gonikoppal, Kodagu of Karnataka state. One of the top sprinters of Asia, she is currently ranked second in Asia in the 400meter category. She was most recently awarded with Arjuna Awards in 2015 for her outstanding contributions to Indian athletics. She is supported by Anglian Medal Hunt Company. She represented India at 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Poovamma was born on June 5, 1990 in Kodagu. Her school and college education was completed in Mangalore. She holds a graduation in Business management. She is active in athletic competitions since 2006. In 2006 and 2008 she represented India at World Junior Championships held at Beijing. In 2007 she represented India at World Youth Championships. She participated in 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games held at Pune in the events 4×400 m relay and 400m. She finished second in 400m sprint event and was a team member of 4×400 m relay which won gold medal at the event. Since then she has given some outstanding contributions to Indian sports.
In 2013 Asian Championships held at Pune, she won a silver medal and finished fourth at World Championships held at Moscow the same year. In 2014 Asian Games she won a bronze medal at 400 m event and gold at 4x400 m relay event. Tintu Luka, Mandeep Kaur and Priyanka Pawar were the other members which gave gold medal to India. She also participated in World Championships 2015 and finished only 14. She has claimed three gold medals at different international events in 4x400 m relay.
