M. K. Muneer Biography

Dr. M. K. Muneer is a politician and social worker from Kozhikode, who is associated with Indian Union Muslim League. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Kerala, C. H. Mohammed Koya. He is a qualified medical doctor by profession and is an artist and poet too. He is a singer, poet and author. He served as the Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayat in UDF Ministry, headed by Oommen Chandy (2011-2016) and represented the Kozhikode South constituency in the legislative assembly. He also served as the Minister for Public Works in both the governments headed by A. K. Antony.

 

In 2016 state assembly elections he successfully contested from Kozhikode South representing IUML and defeated A. P. Abdul Wahab of INL by 6327 votes. Muneer is the State secretary of the Indian Union Muslim League and is the former Chairman of Malayalam TV channel Indiavision. As a writer he has published several ghazals, and published books - Fascism and The Sangh Parivar. Associated with Malayalam TV channel Indiavision for many years, he has also hosted TV shows. He has also hosted Sangeetha Samagamam on Amrita TV. He is also a gifted singer who has won prizes for Best Singer, Best Actor and Best Painter at Intermedico competitions.

 

Muneer was born in 1962 into a prominent political family of Kerala. His father C. H. Mohammed Koya was a famous social leader and politician who served as the 10th Chief Minister of Kerala for a brief period, but known as a prominent cabinet minister of the state, who served the longest term as ‘Education Minister of Kerala’. Muneer, though a qualified doctor by profession, he served as one of the youngest ministers in the cabinet of Oommen Chandy and A. K. Antony.
