M. K. Azhagiri Biography

M. K. Azhagiri is an Indian politician and son of M. Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He is actively involved in politics and is the South Zone Organizing Secretary of the political party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He was born on 30th June 1951 in Chennai. He is serving as the Union Cabinet Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers in the cabinet of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

His parents are M. Karunanidhi and Dayalu Ammal. He got his Bachelor of Arts graduation at Presidency College, Chennai. He married Kanthi Azhagiri on 12/10/1972 and has one son and two daughters. The film producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri is his son. M. K. Stalin, former Mayor of Chennai and member of Tamil Nadu legislative assembly is his brother.

He contested against CPM party Mohan P in Madurai Constituency in 15th Lok Sabha election and won. Clashes are found always between the supporters of M. K. Stalin and M. K. Azhagiri. Karunanidhi appeared to prefer his younger son M. K. Stalin. The succession crisis led to the attack of Madurai Dinakaran office by his supporters. The office was set to fire and three staffs were burnt. He is also accused of having his hand in the murder of the former DMK minister T. Kiruttinan.

He was given the ticket to contest in the Lok Sabha election after managing three elections successfully. He is a follower of Hindu religion though his father Karunanidhi is an atheist. He with his wife donated cows to Madhurai Kallazhagar Temple on his 61st birthday. He had visited many European countries, U.S.A, U.K, Hong Kong, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.
