M. Jayachandran Biography

 

M. Jayachandran is a leading music direction of Malayalam at present. His name is among those musicians who never compromise with melody and has given valuable contributions to Malayalam film industry for about one decade or so. He has rendered his voice for a few compositions as well. Title track of Perumazhakkalam is the best instance.

 

His noted works include Perumazhakaalam, Nivedyam, Celluloid, Kalimannu, Trivandrum Lodge, Amrutham, Nammal Thammil, Robinhood, Chattakari, Rathi nirvedam, Manikya kallu, Shikar, Satyam, Balettan, Kathavasheshan, Akale, Gauri shankaram, Mampazhakkaalam, Vellinakshatram, Madambi, Romans, Ivar vivahitaraayal, Happy husbands, Karayilekku oru kadal dooram, Swapna Sanchari and Pranayam. He is the director who has given a few melodious songs like Nilave of Chattakari, Chandu pottille of Banaras and Chemparathi of Manikya Kallu to Shreya ghosal thus placing her as the top female voice of present times. His background score in award winning movie ‘Khaddama’ was also well appreciated. He is the favourite of director Kamal who has given him movies like Perumazhakkalam, Swapna Sanchari, Khaddama (background music) and Celluloid.

 

He was born in Thiruvananthapuram and a BE graduate too. He started learning carnatic music at the age of 5 and has successively won 4 times continuously at Kerala Youth Festival competitions. He started his film career as a singer for the movie ‘Vasuda’ in 1992, his song was not noticed. Then he joined as Assistant director of Devarajan, but later became independent composer with the movie ‘Chantha’ in 1995. After a few less noticed works, it was ‘Vaalkannadi’ in 2002 that brought him to limelight. The song ‘Manikuyile’ sung by Sujatha became a huge hit. Then the song ‘Junile’ of Nammal Thammil sung by Yesudas and Sujatha placed him among noted musicians of the industry. Movies of Kanmashi of the same year were also noticed.

 

Next year he won his first state awards and Asianet awards for Gauri Shankaram. Along with it, the melodious tune of ‘Innile’ of Baalettan became the top song of the year. After both these movies, his career graph noticed a straight rise and still now, he stays at top. Next year, his melodious tunes of Perumazhakalam won him all music awards including Asianet Playback singer. All songs were big hits too. He has won Kerala state awards seven times till now and quite surprising, he won it successively all the three times – Gaurishankaram (2003), Kathavasheshan and Perumazhakalam (2004), Nivedyam (2007), Madambi (2008), Karayelekkoru kadal dooram (2010), Pranayam (2011) and Celluloid (2013) . He has won best singer Kerala state awards for Nottam in 2006.
