M. H. Jawahirullah Biography

M. H. Jawahirullah is a noted politicianand Muslim leader from Tamil Nadu who represents the minor party, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi party. He is one of the founding members of the party, who currently serves as party leader. In 2016 state assembly elections he got elected from Ramanathapuram constituency. He is also founding member of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham. He is a prominent Muslim political leader from Tamil Nadu who represents 25 Islamic trusts, societies and charities. In 2013 he came to spotlight when he sought a ban on Kamal Hassan's much awaited movie – Vishwaroopam. He cited that the movie delivers a false message that all Muslims are terrorists. Later the ban was lifted.

Jawahirullah was born in Udangudi of Thoothukudi District, Tamil Nadu on 22 July 1959. After completing graduation in commerce from the Madras University, he also took his Master’s in administration and also, Philosophy. He worked as a lecturer at Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi. In 2008, he completed his PhD. A member of SIMI until 1989 he left the organization due to its involvement in violence. Jawahirullah is known for his non-violent measures and struggles to get rights for the minor sectors, especially Muslims in Tamil Nadu, and has been widely appreciated for his efforts and ideologies.

He is one of the founding members of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham, which aimed at the unification of Tamil Muslims. He has represented Muslims of his state for several delegations to the government on issues related to Muslims. His party also succeeded in securing reservations for Muslims in government jobs in Tamil Nadu. He is also associated with many philanthropic activities and organizations too. Karunanidhi donated two ambulances to TMMK, which now runs 42 ambulances in Tamil Nadu offering free services.
