Loveleen Tandan Biography

Loveleen Tandan is an Indian film director and casting director, best known for co-directing the Academy Award winning movie - Slumdog Millionaire (2008). She served as the "Co-Director: India" for which she shared many awards including New York Film Critics Online Award, Rotterdam International Film Festival Award and Amanda Awards Norway, of "Best Director" with Danny Boyle. Earlier known as a cast director, she has worked with many internationally acclaimed movies like Monsoon wedding (2001), The Namesake (2007) and Brick Lane (2007).

Tandan was born and brought up in Delhi. She completed Sociology Honors at the Hindu College, Delhi University and was active in college politics in those days. She also holds a Master's degree in Mass Communication from MCRC. Her association with entertainment industry began in the late 1990s when she assisted many lady film directors. She has worked with Deepa Mehta for Earth (1998) in the art department, Mira Nair for 3 films: Monsoon Wedding (2001), Vanity Fair (2004) and The Namesake (2006) before she moved to casting. She was the cast director of Brick Lane (2007). But the major breakthrough of her career was Slumdog Millionaire (2008) where she worked as "Co-Director: India" and casting director.

Intially she worked as the cast director of Slumdog Millionaire and later promoted as "Co-Director: India" by Danny Boyle impressed by hard work and dedication. It was Loveleen’s suggestion to include Hindi dialogues for the English film which Boyle accepted. The idea really worked for the film. 20% of dialogues of the movie were written in Hindi language and she has given significant contributions in this section. Loveleen has featured in the prestigious "Annual Women's Big Impact Report" which profiles women for path breaking contributions in world entertainment.
