Lopamudra Mitra Biography

Lopamudra Mitra is a noted singer from Bengal. She sings film songs as well as Rabindra Sangeet and is also known as a lyricist. She is married to leading music director and guitarist, Joy Sarkar who is 5 years younger to her. They got married in the year 2001 and have been associated together in many music compositions. In fact, the first song composed by Sarkar, ‘Chhelebelar Brishti’ was sung by Lopamudra in the year 1998. She has also performed in many stage concerts and in 2011, she got privilege to perform aside Lata Mangeshkar at Panchakanya concert. She has completed around 17 years in singing and the most popular contemporary singer now.

 

She was born in south Gangarampur to Pranab Mitra and Sumita Mitra. She studied at Basanti Devi College, University of Calcutta. She was initiated to the world of music by none other than her father, who is a trained vocalist. Then she learnt Rabindra Sangeet from the Gitabitan Cultural Institute. She also learnt music from Rita Roy and Anon Badhuri. Later she learnt Bhajan and Nazrulgeeti from Shri Sukumar Mitra. She learnt Rabindra Sangeet from Subhas Chowdhury, Late Subinoy Roy and Aurobindo Biswas and now she is a well-established singer of Rabindra Sangeeth. While at school and college she has earned several scholarships for her singing talents.

 

She used to sing with group theatre at a younger age and was attached with 'Class Threatre’ under the guidance of Samir Chatterjee. Since 1996, she has released 16 solo albums with HMV, one of the leading music companies. She received BFJA for her debut playback song belonging to the movie 'Sedin Chaitramas’. Her album, Jhor Hole Par received ZEE Music Awards in the year 2005.
