Lokanath Behera Biography 
Lokanath Behera is an IPS officer who has been recently appointed as the Kerala State Police Chief and DGP (Law & Order) by the newly formed LDF government. He replaced IPS officer T. P. Senkumar for the post. Behera belongs to Odisha. He joined IPS in 1985 under Kerala cadre. Started his career as an ASP, he served many high administrative positions including DCP in Kochi and Commissioner of Police in Thiruvananthapuram. He was awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Services in 2009. Behera worked in the CBI and the NIA, and was the Commandant General of Fire and Rescue Services before he was appointed as Kerala State Police Chief in June 2016.
Lokanath Behera belongs to Orissa. He completed his Master’s degree in Geology from Utkal University prior to his entry to Indian Police Service. He joined IPS in 1985 and is a part of the Kerala cadre. He started his professional career as ASP in Kerala and has completed 30 years of service. He served as DCP in Kochi and Commissioner of Police in Thiruvananthapuram, before he was appointed as SP and later DIG in the Central Bureau of Investigation. Graham Staines murder case, Purulia arms drop case, Mumbai serial blast case etc are some of the major investigation cases with which he has been associated with.
He is one of the founding members of National Investigation Agency and joined NIA in 2009. He headed the Terror Financing and Fake Currency specialized cell. He was a member of investigation team who questioned the terrorist David Headley in US. He is a senior officer of National Investigation Agency. In 2016 soon after the formation of LDF government in Kerala, he was appointed as the Kerala State Police Chief and DGP (Law & Order). A series of shuffles were done in the state’s administrative service soon after the formation of the new government.
