Laya Biography

Laya is a south Indian film actress and Kuchipudi dancer. She concentrates on Telugu movies most. She started her acting career as a child artist in the year 1992 with the Telugu film, Bhadram Koduko. Telugu Film Swayamvaram in 1999 alongside Venu marked her debut as an adult actress and later went on to act in about 40 Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films. She is married to Sri Ganesh Gorty since 2006 and currently lives in Los Angeles. The couple has two children. As a successful Telugu actress, she has won Nandi awards for best actress twice. She won the awards in the successive years, Manoharam in 2000 and Preminchu in 2001.

She was born and brought up in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh where she completed her education. Her mother was a music teacher in Nirmala High School, where Laya did her schooling. Her father is a doctor. The family later shifted to Hyderabad. She has been a state level chess player while at school. As a trained Kuchipudi singer, she has performed in more than 50 stage shows. She was most recently seen in Malayalam movie, Kutteem Kolum and Telugu movie Ada, both released in 2013. Kutteem Kolum marked directorial debut of film actor Guinness Pakru.

Missamma, Swayam Varam and Preminchu are her popular Telugu movies. Though she concentrated in Telugu movies, she has also played lead roles in a few Malayalam movies as well. Year 2005 was good for Laya in Malayalam movies. She was paired with Mohanlal for Udayo and with Jayaram in Alice in Wonderland. She played lead role opposite Mammootty in the commercial hit of the same year, Thommanum Makkalum.
