Kumar Gaurav Biography

Kumar Gaurav is a hero of Bollywood 80’s most popular for his debut movie ‘Love Story’ opposite another debutant Vijeyta Pandit. This movie was an all time blockbuster. Yet he couldn’t keep pace with the success of his debut movie resulting in failures one after the other. Kumar Gaurav is the son of the great actor of yesterdays, Rajendra Kumar fondly known as Jubilee Kumar. He is married to Namratta Dutt, the daughter of Sunil Dutt – Nargis Dutt couple and sister of Sanjay Dutt. He has also acted a couple of movies along with Sanjay Dutt – Kaante (2002) and Naam (1986), and both were successful too. His other memorable performances include – Teri kasam (1982) opposite Poonam Dillon, Star (1982) opposite Rati Agnihotri and Padmini Kolhapure, Phool (1993) opposite Madhuri Dixit and Jaanam opposite Shernaz Patel.

He has also worked with his father and father-in-law in many movies including Phool and Love story. Love story was his first movie as leading actor and Phool the last one. He has been successfully paired with almost all young ladies of 80’s – Poonam Dillon, Rati Agnihotri, Neelam, Vijeyta Pandit, Madhuri Dixit and Padmini Kolhapure. Yet his pairing with Vijeyta Pandit in his opening movie Love story is still remembered most. When the movie was released in 1981, he became a craze in college campuses and youngsters tried to ape his hair style and mannerisms at campuses. His second movie in the successive year, Teri Kasam was also a moderate hit. But his later films proved to be disappointing at the box office.

Kumar Gaurav was launched to movies by his father Rajendra Kumar and the success of Love story proved it worth too. Naam was also a box office hit where Kumar worked along with Sanjay Dutt. Rajendra Kumar later produced another movie titled Janam which is regarded as the best performance of Kumar Gaurav till now. But his revival project, along with the top actress Madhuri Dixit couldn’t give success though its melodious songs were noticed.

Other movies of Kumar Gaurav include – Romance, Pratigyabadh,  Goonj, Gang, Lovers, Hum hain lajawaab and Ek se bhale do. He was romantically involved with Vijeyta Pandit. But it couldn’t meet success as the relationship was opposed by both families.
