Krishnamachari Srikkanth Biography

Krishnamachari Srikkanth is an Indian cricketer who was the former captain of Indian cricket team. He is at present serving as the chairman of the selection committee of cricket. He was born on 21st December 1959 at Madras, India. His nickname was Cheeka. He was a right handed batsman and right arm medium and off spinner.

 

He made his Test debut on 27th November 1981 against England and ODI debut on 25th November 1981 against England. His last Test match was on 1st February 1992 against Australia and his last ODI was on 15th March 1992 against South Africa. He has played 43 Test matches and scored 2062 runs with an average of 29.88. His top score in Test match is 123. He has played 146 ODIs and scored 4091 runs with a batting average of 29.01 and top score of 123.

 

Good eye and super quick reflexes are his strengths. He was a stylish opening batsman and became an integral part of the Indian squad in winning the 1883 Prudential World Cup and 1985 Benson and Hedges World Championship of Cricket. He became the captain of the Indian team in 1989. He was the first Indian player to get 5 wickets with a score of 50 runs in an ODI. He achieved this in the match against New Zealand in Vishakapatnam in 1988. After he retired be became the coach of India A team.

 

He is also working as the broad caster and commentator in various sports channels. He was appointed as the Chief Selector of the Indian Cricket team on 27th September 2008. He was made the ambassador for the Chennai Super Kings franchise of IPL. His son Anirudha Srikkanth is also a cricket player and is playing for Tamil Nadu Cricket Team.
