Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao Biography

Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is a successful film editor who predominantly works in Telugu cinema. He is best known for his association with the leading filmmaker of Telugu cinema, S. S. Rajamouli. His elder brother Kotagiri Gopala Rao was also a successful film editor and produced who owned the film production house, Kotagiri Films. One of the accomplished and senior editors of Telugu cinema at present, he received Nandi awards for best editor 5 times throughout his career. He won the awards for the first time in 2004 for the movie Sye, followed by Subhash Chandra Bose (2005), Yamadonga (2007), Magadheera (2009) and Darling (2010). Magadheera is the most appreciated work till now.

 

Known for the successful association with ace film maker S. S. Rajamouli, he has worked with him in his major projects. In fact though Venkateswara Rao has been a part of Tollywood cinema since 1977, his works with Rajamouli shot him to fame and success. He got associated with the director for his both dream projects, Magadheera (2009) and magnum opus Baahubali: The Beginning (2015). He is currently working on the conclusion part of the movie titled, Baahubali: The Conclusion.

 

Venkateswara Rao has worked with S. S. Rajamouli since his debut film, Student No.1 in 2001 which also marked the first hit of Jr NTR. The editor later worked with Rajamouli for all his projects up-to-date. He worked with this ace director for Eega, Magadheera, Maryada Ramanna, Vikramarkudu, Yamadonga, Chatrapati , Simhadri, Sye, Baahubali and its sequel.

 

He hails from Nuzvid. He has 5 siblings. He was the eldest child to his parents. He lost his father at a younger age and so the responsibility of the big family came on his shoulders. He shifted to Chennai and worked as an assistant to director Adurthi Subba Rao. In 1977 he got chance to edit two songs for the movie, Adavi Ramudu in 1977. He was given the opportunity by K. Raghavendra Rao. Since then he has edited movies for about 4 decades. Vetagadu is his debut film. Rao is the former President of the Andhra Pradesh Film Federation.
