Kochouseph Chittilappilly Biography

Kochouseph Chittilappilly is an entrepreneur of Chittilappilly of Thrissur district, Kerala. He is the founder chairman and managing director of V-Guard Industries Ltd, India’s leading voltage-stabilizer company which owns the credit of large stabilizer manufacturer of India. Kochouseph also owns a chain of amusement parks called Wonderla. V-Star Creations, known for churidars and inner wears is the sister concern of V Guard, founded and managed by Sheela Kochouseph, wife of Kochouseph Chittilappilly. Kochouseph is also known for charity and social works and has done many activities like kidney donation. He has also come forward to promote and honour people who have done good activities for the society and known for doing 'unconventional' things. In December 2013 he came to limelight when he offered 5 lakh rupees to a housewife named Sandhya, for the courage shown by her to talk bold against LDF activists and leaders against their siege at Chief Minister’s residence, Cliff House.

 

His real birth place is Parappur, the place near to Chittilappilly. It’s a remote, but beautiful village about 15 kms away from Thrissur main town. His dream was to become a scientist. He completed Master’s degree in Physics in 1970 and started his career as a supervisor in Tellics, an electronics company. In 1977, he started V Guard industries with 1 lakh rupee loan, which is one of the leading brands of electronic products in Kerala. He launched V-Guard at the height of Emergency, in Kottayam. He is known for doing 'unconventional' things. Despite the resistance from his own family, he donated his kidney to a poor truck driver. He is also known as a fitness freak.

 

In the mid-1980’s, he had to shut down his factories forcefully due to trade union strikes. But he took a quick decision to outsource the activities. One such incident happened with V-guard industries as well. When CITU trade union didn’t allow laborers from outside to unload stock, Kochouseph himself started unloading. He has been a role model for his principles and social works always. Practical Wisdom is his published work. In 2000, he set up Veega Land amusement part in Kochi which owns the credit of country’s first amusement park to be awarded ISO 14001-2004. He has also received Rashtriya Samman from the Government of India for the highest tax-payer.
