Kiren Rijiju Biography

Kiren Rijiju is a prominent and young politician from Arunachal Pradesh who currently serves as a parliamentarian and a cabinet minister in Narendra Modi’s cabinet. He belongs to BJP and is the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India. He has been selected among the best MPs of National level surveys. He was placed among the top 5 opposition MP’s last time and chosen as the best young MP by a publication. Kiren Rijiju is considered the face of BJP in North East India and addressed to as "Voice of North East India".

 

Rijiju was born on 19 November 1971 in Nafra of eastern state, Arunachal Pradesh. He was born to a prominent leader cum social worker, Rinchin Kharu and his wife Chirai Rijiju. Rinchin was the first pro-term speaker of Arunachal Pradesh. Kiren Rijiju was active in social life since his younger days and while at college, he was a students’ leader. He participated in the "Festival of India in USSR" held in Moscow in 1987 while his graduation at Hansraj College, University of Delhi. He has also served as a member of various Parliamentary delegations. He was also an athlete since his school days and has participated in national games.  

 

He is one of the prominent young leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party and a leading name in North East India and often regarded as an iconic political figure in the recent times. He got elected to parliament for the first time in 2004 general elections, but lost 2009 elections by a narrow margin of 1314 votes. He won the elections for the second time in 2014 by defeating Takam Sanjoy of the Indian National Congress.
