Kiran More Biography

Kiran More is a former cricketer from India. He played as the wicket keeper batsman for India during the period 1984 to 1993. He was the Chairman of the Selection Committee of the BCCI till 2006. He debut test against England on 5th June 1986 and last match was played against Sri Lanka on August 9, 1993. He scored 1285 runs from 49 test matches and 110 victims were caught behind. His ODI records include 94 matches, 563 runs and 42 not out is his highest score. In 1993, he was given Arjuna Award for his contributions to Indian cricket.

 

Kiran was born on 4 September 1962 in Baroda. He played for the India Under-19 team in the late 1970s. He has also played for a couple of sports club since 1982. In 1982, toured West Indies as the understudy to Syed Kirmani and didn’t play any matches. He played two major innings in Ranji trophy in 1983–84 – 153 not out against Maharashtra and 181 not out against Uttar Pradesh which paved him way to national team. In 1984–85 he got opportunity to play in a couple of ODI against England marking his debut in Indian team.

 

When then wicketkeeper Kirmani’s career virtually ended due to injuries, Kiran got opportunity to play in Indian team. More's first Test series, against England in 1986, was his most successful where he took 16 catches, an Indian record against England. Thus he became the first choice of wicket keeper for India and played for India till 1993. He has scored 7 50’s for India of which a few are memorable ones. 50 at Barbados against West Indies in 1988–89 when score on board was 63/6 and 58* against Pakistan at Karachi to help India from follow on are his memorable innings. As a wicket keeper, 6 stumping in a match against West Indies in 1988-89 is his outstanding performance.
