Kiran Choudhry Biography

Kiran Choudhry is an Indian politician from New Delhi associated with Haryana politics and an MLA currently representing Tosham Vidhan Sabha constituency. This influential politician also serves as the leader of the Congress legislative Party in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, and has earlier served as Deputy Speaker in state legislature. Her name has been included in Haryana Forestry scam case, multi-crore fake plantation case, involving Bhupinder Singh Hooda during his term as CM of Haryana. Government money was embezzled, and the forest scam was exposed by Sanjiv Chaturvedi, an Indian Forest Service officer. An inquiry committee of the MoEF found the allegations against Haryana government true, and currently the case is pending in court.

Kiran Choudhry was born in New Delhi on 5 June 1955. Her father retired as a military officer from Indian army. She is married to Surender Singh, a politician and the couple has one daughter, Shruti Choudhry who is also a politician associated with Indian national congress. Former Chief Minister of Haryana, Bansi Lal is her father-in-law. As she was married to a political family, she too entered social life and politics. She is a Congress politician.

Kiran turned active in state politics since 1990s, and was elected Deputy Speaker of the House unopposed, a position she held till 2003. In 2005 her husband passed away in a helicopter crash aged 59. On 31 March 2005 Singh aged 59, died along with noted industrialist and Power Minister Om Prakash Jindal during an emergency landing in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

A multi-crore fake plantation Haryana Forestry scam case allegedly involving Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kiran Chaudhary and others, tarnished her public image a lot. The legal battle between Haryana ministry and noted IFS officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi continued for long years, and the case is still pending.
