Kifayatullah Dihlawi Biography

Kifayatullah Dihlawi was an Indian Islamic scholar from Shahjahanpur of UP, British India. His final years were spent for social service and education purposes. He was a spiritual person and was also associated with political turmoil for nearly fifty years. He has also served as a teacher for several years. he was a brilliant student during his academic studies and this great scholar authored many books as well.

 

Hazrat Mufti was born in 1875 in Shahjahanpur. His ancestors originally hailed from Yemen and they reached India for selling of goods. But after the wreck of their ship, only person spared was Shaikh Jamaluddin Yamani who got settled in Bhopal after getting married from a local family. His family later moved to Shahjahanpur where they got finally settled. Dihlawi’s primary education was done at the maktab of Hafiz Barakatullah. He was initiated to studies at the age of 5. He studied Quran and studied Urdu and Persian languages too. Thereafter, he enrolled at Madrasa 'Azeeziya. Later he completed his studies at Darul Uloom Deoband in 1898 at the age of 22. After staying at Delhi for a short time, he returned back to his hometown where he started his career as a teacher.

 

He enjoyed reading and writing since his young age. He wrote for the magazine, Al Burhan during his early years. His Arabic poem, Raudur Rayyaahin, was published in 1909. Ta'limul Islam in 4 volumes is one of his renowned works. It is a set of questions and answers written in simple language. Though he was a prominent scholar and able writer, his literary works are few. Truth is that he was so busy with domestic and political activities and teaching career that he could find only less time for writings.
