Keshavram Kashiram Shastri – is the founding leader of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, who has headed Gujarati section too. A life fully dedicated to devotion and religion, he has authored many books and also guided more than 19 researchers in completing their Ph. D degrees though he had only a diploma course in teaching, apart from guiding 1500 other graduate students in Gujarati literature. Often nicknamed as a mobile dictionary of Gujarati language he was a scholar in this language, well versed in grammar and Vedic literature. A leading Vedic scholar, educationalist and literary person, he passed away on September 9, 2006 in Ahmedabad aged 101 years. One of the lately recognized talents, he was conferred Padma Shri years back he gave significant contributions as a teacher and scholar.

Keshavram Kashiram Shastri, shortly called K. K. Shastri was born on 28 July 1905 at Mangarol in Junagadh district of Gujarat. After matriculation, he studied poetry, language and grammar and did a diploma course to begin his career as a teacher. He started off as an assistant teacher of Sanskrit at Coronation High School in 1925 and later became one of the greatest Indian scholars who guided more than 1500 graduates for their research works. He joined the Gujarat Research Society in 1961 and was a ‘Kulpati’. During his early days he worked as an assistant editor of Prajabandhu, a Gujarati weekly.

A guide and patron to innumerable students and VHP Workers, he has written over 1500 research papers in Gujarati, Sanskrit, Hindi and English. Brihad Gujarati Kosh in two volumes, Vanaushadhi Kosh, Jaisamhita, Bharatsamhita and a book on Shrimadbhagwat Puran in Sanskrit are his major books. Vanaushadhi Kosh has been translated to 10 different languages. Ascholar par excellence and knowledge, he was beyond any comparison.
