Kavi Pradeep Biography

Kavi Pradeep is most remembered for the patriotic song, ‘E mere watan ke logon’ that he penned as a tribute to the soldiers who had died defending the country during the Sino-Indian War. When this song was performed live by Lata Mangeshkar in a function Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, was moved to tears. During the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Independence day celebrations in 1997, the song was once again revised by Lata refreshing old memories. Same year Pradeep was honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke Award and he passed away the following year. This single poem earned him the honour of "Rashtriya Kavi" (National Poet) by the government of India. Kavi Pradeep wrote about 1,700 songs, including 72 feature films.

His first recognition came for his patriotic lyrics for the film Bandhan (1940). Chal Chal Re Naujawan song was a huge hit that time. Songs of Kismat were released during British rule in India. He penned the lyrics ‘Aj Himalay Ki Choti Se Phir Hum Ne Lalkara Hai’ with indirect meaning. This song was a trigger to Indian freedom struggle movement. Theatres around the country were resounded with "once more" calls once the song ended and the same track used to be rewound many times in theatres as per public demand. Later British understood that that they were tricked and issued a warrant for his arrest.
