Karen David Biography

Karen David is a Canadian-British actress, singer and songwriter, born in Shillong, Meghalaya to a Khasi mother and South-Indian father. Red Lights, The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior, Couples Retreat, Batman Begins and Flight of Fury are some of her notable roles on big screen. She collaborated with great composer A.R. Rahman on the Broadway musical Bombay Dreams. This multi-talented artist is best known for portraying "Princess Isabella Maria Lucia Elizabetta of Valencia" in the television series, Galavant. She played the role of Layla in the American action film The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior. Her role as Alexia, the glamorous legend hunter in children’s series Pixelface also earned her acclamation. She is married to Carl Ryden, popular Swedish musician.

This breakthrough actress was born in Shillong, Meghalaya but was raised in Canada. She herself calls a "Chinese, Indian and a sliver of Jewish heritage". At the age of 17, she moved to London to do 3-year acting course at Guildford School of Acting. She joined West End musical Mamma Mia! soon after studies marking her professional debut at the age of 20. Then she associated with A. R. Rahman and Shekhar Kapoor for Bollywood-themed musical Bombay Dreams and performed in live concerts across the globe with Rahman’s group.

She was then seen in Dancers: The Trailer (2002), Bollywood Queen (2003), MTV's Top Buzzer (2005), Take 3 Girls (2006, Flight of Fury (2007), The Colour of Magic (2008) etc in supporting roles. The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (2008) marked her real breakthrough where she was offered the lead role. She established herself as a talented actress. David released her first single, "It's Me (You're Talking To)", in 2003 and collaborated with Rahman for Provoked in 2006. She is also associated with charity works.
