Karan Thapar Biography 
Karan Thapar is an Indian television commentator and interviewer. He was born on 5th November 1955 in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir in India. His parents are General P. N. Thapar and Bimla Thapar.
He studied at The Doon School and the Stowe School and got his graduation in Economics and Political Philosophy from Pembroke College in Cambridge in 1977. He became the President of Cambridge Union in 1977 and got his doctorate degree in International Relations from St. Antony’s College in Oxford.
He started his career as a journalist in The Times in Lagos in Nigeria and worked as the Leader Writer till 1981. He joined London Weekend Television in 1982 and worked there for 11 years. Then he returned back to India and joined The Hindustan Times Television Group, Home TV and United Television. He set up his own production house, Infotainment Television in August 2001. This makes programs for various channels like BBC, Doordarshan and Channel News Asia.
He is serving as the President of the Infotainment Television and is noted for his aggressive interviews with celebrities and leading politicians including Kapil Dev, George Fernandes, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Arun Jaitley, etc.
His shows that received welcome are Eyewitness, Tonight at 10, In Focus with Karan, Line of Fire and War of Words. His recent shows are Devil’s Advocate and The Last Word on CNN-IBN and India Tonight on CNBC TV 18. He writes weekly columns in The Hindustan Times.
He won Asian Television Awards in December 2003 and his interview with Khurshid Kasuri, Foreign Minister of Pakistan won him The Best Current Affairs Program award. He received The Best Current Affairs Presenter award for his popular show Face to Face and again he won this in 2007 for his interview with Ram Jethmalani. He is often criticized for frequent interruption during his interviews and not letting his interviewees have their say.
