Karan Kapoor Biography

Karan Kapoor – son of great actor of yesterdays is better known as ‘Bombay Dyeing’ man of 1980’s. Though he has worked in a few movies in 1980’s, it was through his modeling career that he became popular. He was one of the hot properties of modeling industry during middle 80’s and perhaps the most successful model for the popular brand, Bombay Dyeing. He is a member of great Kapoor dynasty, yet falls in the category of those star sons of Kapoor Family who couldn’t make it big. He appeared in the British television series The Jewel in the Crown in 1984.

He was born as the son of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal, a British model and he accomplishes the looks of his foreign mother than his father. It was one of great factors that contributed a lot to the modeling career of Karan. Yet he was not able to achieve success in Bollywood. Karan started his film career with minor roles in his father's productions Junoon (1978) and 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981). As a full-fledged actor Sultaniat released in the year 1986 was his debut movie. He starred along with Dharmendra, Juhi Chawla, Sridevi, Amrish Puri, Shakti Kapoor, Tom Alter and Sunny Deol in this movie. This successful movie is the debut movie of Juhi Chawla also, who had been just crowned as Miss India. Juhi played the lover of Karan Kapoor in this movie and Dharmendra, his father. His character name was Samir.

Later he worked in two more Bollywood movies - Loha (1987) and Afsar in 1988. Both the movies flopped at box office and he realized that Bollywood world is not to him. Then he became a photographer and now lives in London along with his wife and children. He has one daughter and one son.

Though he has modeled for many major brands, it was through Bombay Dyeing that he became an iconic figure. He is the grandson of great Prithviraj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor are his uncles. Still Kapoor family is dominating the industry with a new set of talents like Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor.
