Kajol Devgan Biography

Kajol Devgan is an Indian film actress who is appearing in Hindi films. She is one of the India’s most successful female actors. Her debut film was Behkhudi in Hindi in the year 1992. Her first commercial success was Baazigar with Shahrukh Khan in 1993. With Shahrukh Khan, she acted in many success movies like Dilwale Dulhaniaya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham, and My Name is Khan. Her performance in these films were praised and earned her Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.

 

Kajol Devgan was born on 5th August 1974 in Mumbai in a Bengali-Marathi descent. Her mother, Tanuja was an actress and her father Shomu Mukherjee was a film director. Many members of her family are involved in film industry such as Nutan, Samarath, Rattan Bai, Joy Mukherjee, Deb Mukherjee, Rani Mukerji, Mohnish Behl, Ayan Mukerji, etc. Her sister Tanisha Mukherjee is also an actress. She married the actor Ajay Devgan on 24th February, 1999 and has two children, daughter Nyasa and son Yug.

 

She studied at St. Josephs Convent at Panchgani and then started her career when she was 17. Though her first film was a failure, her second film Baazigar made her famous. She played double role in the film, Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi. Her film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was a major grosser in India. After giving this successful film she took a sabbatical from full time acting for five years and came back again in 2006. Her film Fanaa in which she acted as a blind girl who falls in love with a Kashmiri terrorist won her fourth Filmfare Best Actress Award.

 

She appeared in TV show Kaun Banega Crorepathi by Amitabh Bachchan and won one crore rupees which she donated to cancer hospital in Chennai. She appeared in talk show Koffee with Karan, Rock’n’Roll Family, etc. She is serving as the goodwill ambassador of the Britain based Loomba Trust. She got Karamveer Puraskar award on 26 November 2008 and received Padma Shri award from the Government of India in 2011.
