Kailash Kher Biography

Kailash Kher is one among the most successful voices of India at present. He is a very popular qawali singer as well as Indi-folk. He has sung a few songs for Bollywood movies also. His unique singing style and voice and easiness in handling folk songs have made him immensely popular among the public. He was inspired by the Qawwali singer and music composer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Pandit Kumar Gandharva, whom he sees as inspirations.

 

Kailash Kher was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on 7 July 1973 to a Kashmiri family. Pt.Mehar Singh Kher and Chandrakanta Mehar Singh Kher are his parents. Kailash learned music from him in his childhood and brought up in a music atmosphere from early childhood itself. His father was a priest who used to perform at temples. At the age of 14, Kailash left home in search of a guru. But he couldn’t find a guru and he started learning Music by listening it. He listened to Indian classical, Pandit Kumar Gandharv, Pandit Gokulotsav Maharaj, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Nusrat Fetah Ali Khan, Lata Mangeshkar and their contemporaries.  

 

He started business in 1999, but failed in this attempt. In 2001, he left Meerat to Mumbai to pursue a career in music. One of his friends recommended his name to music director Ram sampat who was in search of a new voice for his jingle. Very soon he started singing jingles for TV and radio commercials. But to get a chance in movies, he had to struggle a lot.

 

"Rabba Ishq Na Hove" of Andaz was his first song and it became quite popular too. Very soon, Alla ke bande song of Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II was released and he didn’t look back there after.  Now, for solo songs praising or praying to God, Kailash’s voice get first chance always. He has sung the song, ‘Khuda ki mannat’ for Mohan lal’s Malayalam movie – Keerthi Chakra in the year 2006. His other similar songs are Subhanalla..Chand sifarish of Fanaa (for which he shared Filmfare awards with Shaan) is oen such. He has also composed a few songs for Bollywood films.

 

His other hits include Title track of Love sex aur Dhoka, Kaise Hai Ye Udaasi of Karthik calling Karthik, E khuda of Paatsaala, Fann Ban Gayi of Tere naal pyar ho gaya, Tu Jaane Na – Unplugged for Ajab prem ki gajaz kahani and Fatek of kaminey. He has also sung for a few Telugu and Kannada movies.
