Kabir Bedi Biography

Kabir Bedi is an Indian television, theatre and film actor, most known for supporting and negative roles. Apart from Indian art, he works for United States and many European countries also. He has worked in 60 Bollywood movies. His noted roles in Hindi movies include – Villain role in Khoon bhari maang and role as Emperor Shah Jahan in Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story. He is equally popular in Italy as in India. Sandokan is a highly popular TV miniseries of Europe and his negative role in 1983 James Bond film Octopussy also needs special mention. He always had a tensed married life and has married four times. The first three marriages resulted in divorces. Famous model and actress, Pooja Bedi is his daughter from his first marriage (dancer Protima Bedi). His relationship with Parveen Babi became top news of entertainment columns during 1980’s. It resulted in his first divorce as well. He is official ambassador of the Burma Campaign UK.

Kabir was born in a family of freedom fighters. His father, Baba Pyare Lal Bedi was an author and philosopher. His mother, Freda Bedi was a British woman born in Derby, England who later took Buddhism. Kabir Bedi did his schooling at Sherwood College, Nainital, and graduation from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He started his career through theatre and later moved to movies. He was one of the earliest actors from Bollywood who got internationally acclaimed worldwide. Apart from movies, he works in television and theatre, both India and abroad.

As a stage actor, his most noted works are Shakespeare’s Othello and ‘The Vultures’. In the film Octopussy, he played the villain's aide Gobinda who battled Roger Moore from start to finish. Still he remains the only Bollywood actor to appear in a James Bond movie. Kabir acted in ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, the second most-watched television show in the world all times. Since 1982 Kabir has been a voting member of the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Screen Actors Guild.
