Kaadhal Sugumar Biography

Kaadhal Sugumar is a noted character artist associated with Tamil cinema, who got noticed playing Bharat’s friend Stephen’s role in Tamil Blockbuster – Kaadhal. He turns a screenwriter and director with the film - 'Thirukural', produced by Aditi Reesha under the banner Adito Screens. Though he has acted in five Tamil films before Kaadhal, this actor later got the film tag like many other debutantes of the film. His debut film was Kasturi Raja’s ‘Kaadhal Jaathi’, which never got a theatric release. A. Alagappan’s ‘Kalakalapp’ was his first release. Kaadhal Azhivathille, Veeramandi and Vasool Raja MBBS were his previous ventures before Kaadhal.

However Kaadhal was his big break to film acting. He got the film offer while he was doing Vasool Raja MBBS. He was called to the studio by film director Balaji Sakthivel and was given a brief description on how the film is to be done without dubbing. Later he was called to Madurai for film’s shooting. In fact many of his scenes were shot without informing him that it’s the final shot and it added more natural and realistic flavours to the film scenes. Since many artists were there in the industry with name Sukumar, Kaadhal tag got permanently added to his name.

He entered film scene in 2001 and has acted in around 150 films till now. Yet he is still recognized as Stephen of Tamil classic – Kaadhal. Meenkothi is a distinct character role he played on screen. He has also excelled as a comedian, though he is keen to accept all type of character roles. He acted in an offbeat film ‘Mannu’ which earned him best supporting actor award at Malaysian film festivals. He played one among the four leads of the movie – Yuga.
