K. Veeramani Biography 
K. Veeramani was born on 2nd December 1933 at Cuddalore district, Tamilnadu. He was born in a middle class family. He finished his primary education at Cuddalore and joined Annamalai University where he finished his master degree in Economics. He was the class topper and received the Gold medal. And later, he completed the Bachelor degree in Law from Madras University. He married Mohana in 1958 and this is an inter-caste marriage. This marriage is considered by his followers as a symbol of caste denial. They have two sons and two daughters. He is also referred to as Aasiriyar K. Veeramani.
He is the third president of Dravidar Kazhagam. Dravidar Kazhagam is an Indian organization started by Periyar in 1978 to oppose the caste system and dedicated to the welfare of non-Brahmins. He started his career as a lawyer in Cuddalore. He also involved in many social activities. From 1956, he started to work with Periyar. He assisted Periyar in editing Viduthalai. Viduthalai is the rationalist daily of Dravidar Kazhagam. Later in 1962, he became the Executive editor of Viduthalai. He has been working as an editor since 1978.
Tamil nationalism was launched by Periyar. Veeramani stood behind Periyar and worked actively in the social campaigns and agitations. He supported LTTE strongly. So he was imprisoned many times. In 1976, he was arrested under MISA for opposing Emergency. Again he was jailed for showing Black flags against Indira Gandhi for imposing Emergency. His father C. S. Krishnasamy died when he was in jail.
1n 2003, Alagappa University conferred him the degree of Doctor of Literature (D.Litt). He was the first person to receive Periyar Award for Social Justice from Government of Tamil Nadu for his contribution to Social Justice. Malaysia Dravidar Kazhagam awarded him the title of Karuthukkanal (Spark of ideas). The Myanmar Self-respect Association conferred the title “Per Arivaalar” (genius) in February 2003. He is the president of Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology. He is the Secretary to The Periyar Self-Respect Propaganda Institution and Tamilnadu Rationalist Forum. He is the founder, chairperson and the Executive Director of International Institute of Periyar’s Philosophy and Ideology.
