K. V. Kamath Biography 
Kundapur Vaman Kamath, shortly called K. V. Kamath is a business icon from India. He has served as the Chairman of Infosys Limited and as the Non-Executive Chairman of ICICI Bank. Kamath also served as ICICI Bank's Managing Director and CEO from 1996 to 2009. After his retirement from executive responsibilities he handed over his responsibilities to Chanda Kochhar. Kamath took charge as the Chairman of Infosys from N R Narayana Murthy on August 21, 2011, before holding the position of Non-Executive Chairman of the company for about 4 months.
Kamath was born on December 2, 1947 in Mangalore, Karnataka. After completing matriculation (Pre-degree course) from St. Aloysius College, he took Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969 from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, then known by the name Karnataka Regional Engineering College. Then he took MBA degree from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1971. Kamath started his career with ICICI (Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India) in the Project Finance division. Then he moved to different positions of the same organization over the period. He has been credited with expanding ICICI to a technology-enabled financial organisation.
In 1988, Kamath joined the Asian Development Bank, Manila and worked for projects of China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and several countries. In May 1996, Kamath returned to ICICI as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He played a significant role over the years to make this organization as India’s biggest private sector bank. Now ICICI Bank’s position is next to State Bank of India. He expanded the Group's services to the retail customers and initiated a process of a series of acquisitions of non-banking finance companies in 1996-98. It finally resulted to the formation of ICICI Bank.
