K. Sarangapani Biography 
K. Sarangapani was a noted comedian of Tamil cinema and an occasional hero. He was active in the industry since middle 1930’s to late 1960’s. He occasionally sings for movies as well. Thillana Mohanambal, Thiruvilaiyadal, Adutha Veettu Penn, Pangaaligal and Saraswathy Sabadham are among his last released movies.
Sarangapani was born in 1904 in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu in a musical family, related to art. He was born as the last son of the couple - Soundararajan and Jagadambal. He has 4 siblings. His brother Periya Rajanna was an artist. Sarangapani was married to Thayalnayaki and had 4 children. He was a true patriot and hence named his children as Gandhi Padamanbhan, Vijayalakshmi Pandit, Bhaskara Patel and Subash Chandra Bose.
As he was born in an art family, he was inclined towards arts and music at a younger age. At the age of Seven, Sarangapani joined Jaganatha Iyer Company where he performed as a child actor and singer. He mostly performed “Shtreepart” – Woman role in those days and later moved to comedian roles. Later he joined Nawab Rajamanikam Pillai Company which travelled state wide and Sri Lanka. He got his break into movies while performing for Devi Bala Vinodha Sangeetha Sabha in Coimbatore. Though he became a part of film industry and became a busy and successful actor, he never quit drama.
Though noted for his comic roles, Sarangapani appeared as lead actor in “Rambaiyin Kaathal” and “Sabapathi”. In 1964, Sarangapani was conferred with Tamil Nadu State Award – Kalaimamani. He was also honoured with “Raja Sando” Award in 1982 by His Excellency Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy for his lifetime contributions to Tamil cinema. Sarangapani was a favourite of director A.P.Nagarajan who gave him roles in 'Kulamagal Radai', 'Navarathiri' Thiruvilaiyaadal,'Saraswathi Sabathaam' and 'Thillaanaa Mohanambal'.
