K. C. Venugopal Biography

K. C. Venugopal is an Indian politician and Minister of State for Civil Aviation in Indian Government. He was elected to Parliament from Alappuzha Lok Sabha Constituency. He is an active member of Indian national congress since his college days. He has won to Kerala Legislative Assembly for 3 terms in 1996, 2001 and 2006 from Alappuzha Constituency.

He was born on February 4, 1963 to Kunjukrishnan and Janaki Amma in Kannur District of Kerala. He was active in politics since his college days and came to active politics through the Student Movement of the Indian National Congress. He began his political career when he was a student of the Payyanur College. He took post graduation in mathematics. He became the State President of the Kerala Students Union and State President of the Indian Youth Congress. In three consecutive terms, 1996, 2001 and 2006 he was elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly and each time he got ticket from Alappuzha Constituency. He served as the Minister for Dewaswom and Tourism in the Oommen Chandy Ministry from 2004-2006. Dewaswom is the board controlling Kerala temples. He won with good margin for Loksabha elections from Alappuzha Constituency in 2009. Though his hometown in Kannur, he always stands in elections from Alappuzha and has always been declared winner too. After relocating to Alappuzha he has been a part of this town and its active politics.

As a politician he started his journey as president of the Payyanur College unit of the Kerala Students Union and now he has reached the top position of Union cabinet. State president of the KSU (1987–92) and the Youth Congress (1992–2000) are other noted positions held by K. C. Venugopal. He was also a volleyball player during his college days.
