K. Bhagyaraj Biography

K. Bhagyaraj is an Indian film actor, director and producer who has produced many Tamil films and some films of other languages. He writes screenplay for his films and has won many awards and honors.

 

He was born on 7th January 1953 in Vellankoil village near Gobichettipalayam in Tamil Nadu. His father’s name is Krishnaswamy and his mother’s name is Amaravathiamma. He had great interest in film industry from his childhood days. He left his hometown and came to Chennai to pursue his career in movie industry.

 

The actress Praveena paired with him in the film Bhama Rukmani and they fell in love with each other and got married in 1981. However she died of jaundice in August 1983 and after her death he remarried Poornima Jayaram in 1984 who starred with him in the film Darling Darling Darling. He has one daughter named Saranya Bhagyaraj and one son named Shanthnu Bhagyaraj. His daughter entered film industry through the film Paarijaatham and his son made his film debut as an actor through the film Sakkarakatti.

 

Bhagyaraj entered film industry in the year 1977 and his career spreads more than 35 years. He started his career as an assistant director to G. Ramakrishnan and then joined Bharathiraja. He was recognized for his talents in scriptwriting. His earlier works were for the films of Bharathiraja named Kizhake Pogum Rail and Tik Tik Tik. Both these films got positive reviews.

 

He got his first chance to direct a film in the year 1979 which was named Suvarillatha Chiththirangal. Soon he was able to establish his career as a director and got many chances to produce distinctive films in Tamil. He not only directed films but also has acted in many of them in the lead roles. His elaborate and witty script with a social theme often attracted the audience. His film Munthanai Mudichu was a great success.

 

He also ventured into the Hindi film industry and directed the films of Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. Apart from his career in film industry, he has also written many books namely Vannga Cinemavai Pattri Pesalam, Neenga Nenaicha Saadhikkalaam, Ungal Bhagyarajin Kezhvi Bhadhil, etc. He entered journalism and issued a Tamil magazine named Bhagya for quite sometimes. But since he could not run it successfully he stopped that after few years.

 

Some of his films include 16 Vayathinile, Kizhake Pogum Rail, Sigappur Rojakkal, Puthiya Vaarpugal, Kanni Paruvathile, Bhama Rukmani, Suvarillaatha Chithirangal, Oru Kai Oosai, Ethir Veettu Jannal, Vidiyum Varai Kaathiru, Mouna Geethangal, Antha Ezhu Naatkal, Darling Darling Darling, Thooral Ninnu Pochu, Munthanai Mudichu, Aakhri Raasta, Anbulla Rajinikanth, Naan Sigappu Manithan, Chinna Veedu, Dhavani Kanavugal, En Rathathin Rathame, Veetla Visheshanga, Siddu +2, Uthama Puthiran, Ninaithale Inikum, Vaagai Sooda Vaa, Maaveeran, etc.
