K. Babu Biography 
K. Babu is a prominent politician belonging to Kerala state politics, a member of Indian National Congress. Previously served as the Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Excise under Oommen Chandy Ministry 2011-2016, he had to resign from the post on January 24th 2015 just a few months before the state assembly elections. Without any drama, he was willing to quit the post as he promised earlier, if he was found guilty and corrupted for bar bribery charges, a case that shook state politics as whole. A prominent politician from Thripunithura constituency, he has been elected to state assembly during 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011.
He was born in Angamaly of Ernakulam district in the year 1951. He completed graduation from Kalady Sree Sankaracharya College. He is married and settled with his family at Thripunithura. Babu entered politics while as a student in 1966, where he became a member of KSU, a youth wing of Indian National Congress. When Angamaly Municipal Council was started, he became its first chairman and owned the honour of being the youngest across the state. Later he served many decorative positions of Congress Party and State government.
He got elected to state assembly for the first time in 1991. He defeated the prominent Communist leader M.M Laurence with a margin of 4946 votes from Thripunithura constituency. A permanent constituency of CPM till then, his victory in Thrippunithura marked a major political change in the constituency. After that he got elected from the same constituency consecutively in 1996, 2001, 2006 and the latest elections – 2011. He was sworn in as a minister in Kerala for the first time in 2011 and given the portfolios - Fisheries, Ports and Excise. But due to high pressure political drama that exists in the state for the past two years related to Liquor ban and bar bribery charges on many leaders of Congress party, he finally gave in.
