Jyotsna Radhakrishnan Biography

Jyotsna Radhakrishnan is a leading playback singer of Malayalam at present. She hails from Thrissur. Yet she was born and brought up in Kuwait. She debut singing with "Valakilukkam Kettedee" from the film "Pranayamani Thooval" in 2002 which happened to be the debut movie of actress Gopika as well. Yet it was through Kamal’s movie, Nammal (2002) that she gained attention. She sang the romantic track, Sukhamaanee nilavil’, aside Vidhu Pratap, which proved to be the big break of his career as well. She has sung for 130 movies including all south Indian languages.

 

Born in September 5, 1986 in Kuwait, she started learning Hindustani and Carnatic music at a younger age. She has learnt Carnatic vocal under Mangad Natesan and Hindustani classical vocal under Guru Dinesh Devdas. After the popular romantic track, "Sughamanee Nilavu" from the film "Nammal", she didn’t look back and has rendered her voice for numerous hit songs in the recent times. She won Asianet Film awards for best female playback for the same song as well. Other awards received by Jyotsna include - "Yuva Prathibha" award by Pallavoor Appu Marar Smaraka Kala Kshetra 2003, Shruthi Bharatham Award for best Female Playback Singer 2003, "Sangeetha Prathibha Sangamam" from UAE, Kaveri Film Critics TV Award 2004 and Mahatma Gandhi Education Foundation Award 2004.

 

Director Kamal has been instrumental in giving her some big songs of her career. Sukhamaanee nilavil of Nammal, "Meheruba" from "Perumazhakkalam" and ”Karuppinazhagu” from "Swapnakoodu" of course, deserves special mention. Katha katha kilippennu of Raappakal, Ithile nee of Manju poloru penkutty, Varavelkkumo, Oru thottavadi of Pacha kuthira and Manam thelinja raavum of Goal are a few more. She has sung numerous hits for actress Meera Jasmin. Other popular tracks of Jyotsna include - "Melleyonnu" from "Manassinakkare", Thamarayum sooryanum of Chocolate, Pineapple pennae of Vellinakshatram, One plus one two is Maths of Kasthurimaan, Hridayavum hridayavum of Notebook, Muthumazha of Big B and Chakkara mavinte of Albhutha dweep. Her released albums include – Malayali pennu, Manicheppu, Chempakame, Krishnapriya and Ithu Premamo.
