Jyoti Subhash Biography

Jyoti Subhash is a noted actress of Marathi cinema who has also appeared in a few Bollywood movies like Phoonk and Aiyya. Dahavi Pha (2002), Valu (2008) and Gabhricha Paus (2009) are her noted Marathi works in the recent times, where she played supporting roles. Marathi actress and theater personality, Amruta Subhash is her daughter. Jyoti is also known as a theatre and television actress.

 

She was active in theatre and television during the first phase of her career. Later she moved to movies. Subhash started her career through theatre. She has been regularly featured in Doordarshan serials and telefilms of early 1990’s. Rukmavati Ki Haveli (1991) and Zazeere (1992) are her noted appearances on television. In 1999, she translated the Marathi play Raste to Hindi and it was directed and staged by Arvind Gaur and Satyadev Dubey. She also appeared in Marathi movies playing supporting roles since 1990’s. Dahavi Fha, Devrai, Aamhi Asu Ladke and Shubhra Kahi are among her early works. Uney Purey Shahar Ek is her most recently staged play.

 

The comedy film Vaalu in 2008 was one of her noted Marathi performances in the recent times. She portrayed the role of Sakhubai in this commercial hit. In 2010, she appeared in Vihir in the role of a grandmother. She played the role of Rani Mukherjee’s grandmother in 2012 movie, Aiyya. Samhita, Masala, Dhoosar and Baba Lagin are other recent released movies. She has worked with her daughter Amruta in a few movies like Masala, Nital, Valu and Zoka. She played her grandmother’s role in Aaji and mother’s role in Gandha. They together worked in one play - Kalokhachya Leki.
