Jwala Gutta Biography

Jwala Gutta is an Indian badminton player and a national badminton champion. She has won the National Badminton Championships 13 times. She was born on 7th September 1983 in Wardha in Maharashtra. Her father is Kranti Gutta and he belongs to Telugu origin and her mother Yelan Gutta belongs to Chinese origin.

 

Jwala later settled down in Hyderabad. She fell in love with the fellow badminton player Chetan Anand and married him on 17th July 2005. He too had grabbed National Badminton Championships many times and has got Arjuna Award for his sports talents. However the couple got divorced on 29th June 2011. S. M. Arif is her coach.

 

Jwala Gutta got a chance to participate in 2012 London Olympics. She performs better in doubles event. In the India Asia Satellite tournament 2002, she was able to reach up to the semi final round. In the Scottish International tournament 2004 and 40th Portuguese Badminton Championship 2004, she reached up to the final rounds. She won gold medal in the Sri Lanka International Satellite tournament 2006 and the Cyprus Badminton International tournament 2007.

 

She also won at the Indian International Challenge tournament, the Pakistan International Challenge tournament and the Nepal International Series tournament 2008 and in the women’s double category at Yonex Dutch Open Grand Prix 2008. She set the record of being the first women doubles pair to win bronze medal in world championships 2011. Her highest ranking in doubles was 6 and as of 23rd June 2011 her ranking was 21.

 

She proved her talents in the mixed doubles category also and was able to win in the Jakarta Satellite tournament 2005, Welsh International tournament 2005, Cyprus Badminton International tournament 2007 and Indian International Challenge tournament 2007. In the Commonwealth Games 2010, she was able to bag gold medal. She deserved it for her hard works.
