Joshy Mathew Biography

Joshy Mathew is an Indian film maker associated with Malayalam cinema. Black Forest, released in 2013 is his recent release. Made his debut in the year 1984 as assistant director of renowned director P. Padmarajan, his independent directorial venture was Nakshatra Koodaram released in 1992. This movie also marked the film debut of ad director cum film actor, Sijoy Varghese as his assistant. Joshy has spent more than 3 decades in the Malayalam film industry, though he has given only less number of movies.

 

Pathaam Nilayile Theevandy and Black Forest are his highly acclaimed works. His recent movie Black Forest was shown at many international film festivals and got many prizes include National award for best film on Environment conservation/Preservation and Kerala state critics award for Best children film and best environment film. Pathaam Nilayile Theevandy received FIPRESCI AWARD at the IFFK 2009 for Best Malayalam Film. But unfortunately ‘Black Forest’ is yet to find an exhibitor to release the movie. The movie expresses the anguish over the fast depleting forests and the confidence that the younger generation can contribute a lot to reverse the process.

 

Joshy belongs to Kottayam district of Kerala. He was born in 1953. He is married to Moly Joshy Mathew and the couple has two kids. After working as an assistant in the film industry for long 8 years he made his directorial debut in 1992.  Nakshatra Koodaram released in 1992 starred Shweta Menon, Suresh Gopi, Jagathi Sreekumar and K.P.A.C. Lalitha in pivot roles. Later he directed Oru Kadankatha Pole (1993), Rajadhani (1994), Man of the Match (1996), Pathaam Nilayile Theevandy (2009), Upadesiyude Makan (2010) and Black Forest (2013).
