Johny Antony Biography

Johny Antony is a popular film director known for making masala movies. He has been associated with Mammootty and Dileep for majority of his movies. His movies normally run at theatres and have become commercial hits. Most of his movies belong of comedy genres, the exceptions being Thappana, Masters and Cycle. Most of his comedy masala movies are children oriented and they are well accepted by audience too. CID Moosa with Dileep and Ee Pattanathil Bhootham with Mammootty fall under this category. He has also handled serious subjects. Cycle is a thriller movie which told the story of 2 friends and a bank robbery while Thappana tells the story of two convicts, the petty thief Samson, played by Mammootty and a young girl Mallika played by Charmy Kaur.

He belongs to Changanassery of Kottayam. He started his career as an assistant director and has worked for a decade under many leading film directors like Thulasidas, Taha, Kamal and Jose Thomas since 1991. The slapstick comedy C.I.D. Moosa in 2003 with Dileep and Bhavana in the lead roles was his debut movie. This movie was released soon after the success of Meesa Madhavan which gave instant stardom to Dileep. C.I.D Moosa was also a box office hit, though it received mixed reviews from critics. Later Johny has directed many comedy and successful movies of Dileep like Kochi rajavu and Inspector Garud.

His association with Mammootty began with Thuruppu Gulan in 2006 which was a commercial hit. Later they worked together for Ee pattanathil bhootham and Thappana. He directed one movie with Prithviraj – Masters which was well appreciated by critics.
