Johnny Lever Biography

Johnny Lever is one among the best comedians of Bollywood who has done more than 300 films. He has been nominated 13 times till now, for his performance in a comic role and he has won it twice for Deewana masthana and Dulhe raja. He was indispensible part of Bollywood movies in 1990’s though he has given his position to new comers in 2000’s. His energetic mannerisms and looks have attracted millions all over the world and through his natural talent, he has made everyone laugh and forget all sorrows at least for a while.

His real name is John Prakasa Rao Janumala and he is a resident of Andra Pradesh. Due to financial problems discontinued his studies and started working in different jobs. He learnt the primary lessons of comedy from Yakutpura and he was inspired by great comedians of Bollywood – Johny Walker and Mehmood. He performed as a mimicry artist too. Once while performing in his father’s factory, people appreciated his talent and renamed him as Johnny Lever. Slowly he behan to do stage shows associated with musical orchestra and in one such world tour, he performed with Big B. Johnny Lever sees Kalyaniji as his mentor and seeing one of his stage performances, Sunil Dutt offered him a role in Dard ka rishta during early 80’s.

Thus he began his Bollywood career and performed in stage shows as well. He got offers for movies like Tezaab and Kishen Kanhaya. But his performance was most appreciated in Baazigar (1993). Slowly he became an important part of Bollywood and became no.1 comedy actor till late 90’s. His performance in Kuwara, Anari, Roop ki raja choron ki rani, Dulhe raja, Soldier, Band darwaza, Mahakaal, Criminal, Prem rog, Karan Arjun, Zamane se kya darna, Ram shastra,Khiladi, Chamatkar, Aasoo bane angare, Humla, Narasimha, Haqueeqat, Daraar, Nayak, Indian, Judai, Jab pyra kise se hota hai, Kuch kuch hota hai, Hum aapke dil mein rehte hain and Had kardi aape were well appreciated by audience.

Everyone loved his performance in Kuch kuch hota hai who loves English man and English flag a lot. His quarrels with Farida Jalal were quite worth watching. He nicely acted as a dead person in Govinda’s Kuwara and did a camera man’s job in Nayak. It’s not at all easy to mention a few movies that he has delivered his best performance. It’s true Johnny Lever has been one among the most celebrated stars of Bollywood during 90’s.
