Jimmy Shergill Biography

Jimmy Shergill is a Bollywood actor who works for Punjabi movies as well. He has also acted as a producer and directed a few movies. Jimmy Shergill debut with Maachis in 1996. Then he did leading roles for numerous films, and later shifted to character roles as well. Among his movies as an actor, his most memorable roles are Maachis, Mere yaar ki shaadi hai, Munna bhai MBBS, Dil vil pyar vyar, Mohabbatein and Lage raho Munna bhai. His roles in Sahib Biwi aur Gangster and its sequel, Sahib Biwi aur Gangster returns are really significant. His role as villain in the comeback movie of Karishma Kapoor – Dangerous Ishq is also commendable. His other movies in leading and supporting roles include A Wednesday, Rajdhani Express, Raqeeb, Umar, Hum tum, Haasil, Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar, Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar, Delhi heights, Tom Dick and Harry, Yahaan, Silsilay, Tanu weds Manu,  Eklavya: The Royal Guard, Dil hai tumhara, Jahan Tum Le Chalo, Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota, Agni Pankh, Dus kahaniyan, Strangers, Victoria No. 203, My name is Khan and Game.

 

Among his Punjabi movies, his best movies are Mel Karade Rabba in 2010, for which he won PTC best actor award and Dharti in 2011, for which he won PTC best actor critics award. Years have only groomed up his acting skills and these two movies and Sahib Biwi aur Gangster series are the best instances. His other Punjabi movies include – Rangeelay, Tera Mera Ki Rishta, Mannat, Yaaran Naal Baharan, Mitro-Mitro and Munde U.K. De. After 2010, he has turned to a producer as well and has produced a few Punjabi movies also – Dharti, Taur Mittran Di, Saadi Love Story and Rangeelay.

 

Shergill started his acting career in 1996 with the critically acclaimed film Gulzar’s Maachis. This movie accumulated many awards including National awards for wholesome entertainment and popularity. His next box office hit was Yash Chopra’s Mohabbatein. He was one among the college boys and was casted opposite Preeti Jhangiani. Success of Mohabbatein gave him yet another project of Yash Raj films – Mere yaar ki shaadi hai. In these two movies, he worked with Yash Chopra’s younger son, Uday Chopra. But later, he couldn’t get big roles in Bollywood and turned to Punjabi movies and Bollywood supporting roles also.
