Jeetendra Biography

Jeetendra is a successful actor of Bollywood who has done wonderful roles during 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Apart from it, he is known as ‘Jumping Jack’ for the dancing numbers he has done for the song ‘Mast baharom’ along with Babita in the movie Farz in 1967. He is a successful film producer and chairman of the Balaji Motion Pictures, Balaji Telefilms and ALT Entertainment. His son Tusshar Kapoor is a successful hero of present times and his daughter Ekta Kapoor is a successful serial producer and film producer who has produced record making Teleserial Kabhi saas bhi kabhi bahu thi and the movie ‘The dirty picture’.

 

Born as Ravi Kapoor, he changed his name to screen name ‘Jitendra’. Rajesh Khanna and he studied together in St. Sebastian’s Goan High School in Girgaum. His first role was body double for Sandhya in the holy song ‘Are ja re’ of Navrang. Very soon, the same production company and the director Shanta Ram launched him in the movie ‘Geet gaya patharon ne’ opposite his daughter Rajshree. The movie released in 1964 was critically well received and his role as artist curving sculptures was well noticed. But it took 3 more years to get his second role in 1967. He did full justification for the role he played in Farz, a role for which he is remembered most till now. As many great stars were reigning Bollywood that time, he got only less roles and among the movies of 60’s and early 70’s, the movies like Jeene ki raah, Jigri dost, Khilauna, Caravan, Parichay, Humjoli, Himmat, Parivaar, Aulaat, Boond jo ban gaye moti, Mere humsafar, Maa aur Mamta, Shaadi ke baad, Ek naari ek brahmachari, Banphool, Kinara, Dharam veer, Nagin, Badalthey rishtey, Khushboo and Bidai need special mention.

 

Jitendra as an actor was benefitted most during 1980’s when great actors of 60’s and 70’s grew old and he began to get meaty roles. He was casted opposite Sridevi, Reena Roy and Jayaprada in most of the movies and he danced and entertained the crowd of 80’s. He has done all types of movies – from romantic hero to loyal husband and placed himself among the most successful actors of Bollywood. But he was never able to win a Filmfare awards in his life time. Among the movies of 80’s, Mang bharo sajna, Justice Chaudary, Tohfa,Khudgarz,  Sadha suhagan, Arpan, The burning train, Aasha,Pyasa sawan, Himmatwala, Qaidi, Mere saath and New Delhi need special mention.
