Jayant Kripalani Biography

Jayant Kripalani is a film, television and stage actor, who predominantly works in Hindi. He appears in supporting roles in Bollywood movies. 3 Idiots, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na and Rub a ru are his recent appearances. He is also known as a screenwriter who wrote the script of Shyam Benegal's Well Done Abba released in 2009. Khandaan, Mr. Mrs and Ji Mantriji placed him as a popular television actor as well. He was one of the earliest stars of Indian television – Doordarshan network in the 1980’s. He is also known as a trainer and director. He is an English literature graduate from Jadavpur University.

 

He worked at JWT, Grant Kenyon & Eckhardt before entering cinema and television. He has also worked as Senior Creative Director with R K Swamy BBDO. It was during early 1980’s when small screen started gaining popularity in India and during 1980’s tele films and television serials had just started, with 13 mini episodes one episode a week. During this time many Bollywood actors, both males and females started dwelling in television serials. Jayant too was one of the most popular television stars during 1980’s, the most noted serial being Khandaan. Later he appeared in Ji Mantriji (2003), the Indian adaptation of BBC's satirical sitcom, Yes Minister.

 

He acted in character role in Bollywood movie - Heat and Dust (1983) directed by James Ivory, Bollywood movies like Rockford, Alag, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na and 3 Idiots. In Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, he played the role of Aditi’s father. In 3 Idiots, he appeared as Interview panel head. He has also written the script of Doordarshan serial of 1980’s - Ghar Jamai.
