Javed Anand Biography 
Javed Anand is an Indian journalist and civil rights activist who founded the Mumbai-based Sabrang Communications in 1983. He is also one among the founding members of the NGO, Citizens for Justice and Peace most noted for "Best Bakery case". He is married to Teesta Setalvad, granddaughter of M. C. Setalvad, India's first Attorney General. Together they have been associated with many social activities. After quitting their journalist job, they together formed the monthly Communalism Combat, in which both served as editors.
Javed Anand was born into a conservative Muslim family in the year 1950. He took metallurgical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai in the year 1971. He worked for the Front for Rapid Economic Development of India, and then took journalism as his career where he wrote for ‘The Daily’, a Mumbai-based tabloid newspaper. In 1983 he met Teesta Setalvad who joined ‘The daily’ as a journalist. They got married after 4 years of courtship. Soon after the demolition of Babri Mosque in December 1992, the couple left their jobs with mainstream newspapers and launched Communalism Combat, a monthly magazine. They also started Sabrang Communications and Publishing Pvt Ltd. The first issue came out in August 1993.
The magazine struggled at first and gained momentum later. The couple did occasional assignments. Just before 1999 Lok Sabha elections, the magazine came with an ad campaign featuring 18 fact sheets pitched against the Sangh Parivar. Sabrang Communications has published various widely discussed reports. Damning Verdict: Report of the Srikrishna Commission on the riots in Mumbai in 1992-1993, 12 March 1993 bomb blasts and communal violence in Gujarat, in 2000 titled, Saffron on the rampage: Gujarat's Muslims pay for the Lashkar's deeds are among those noted published ones.
