Jashwant Gangani Biography

Jashwant Gangani is a popular filmmaker associated with Gujarati cinema. He produces and directs Gujarati films. He was awarded Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award in 2011, for the best producer and director of the year. He is the script writer, producer and director of the popular Gujarati television show - Kariyavar, telecast on Zee TV Gujarati from 2006 to 2007. The show completed 270 episodes and won seven awards. As a film producer and director, Man Sayba Ni Mediye (1999) was his debut film which became commercially successful. Maiyar Ma Mandu Nathi Lagtu (2001), Mandva Ropavo Manaraj (2003), Palave Bandhi Preet (2005), Maiyar Ma Mandu Nathi Lagtu Part II (2008), Mara Rudiye Rangana Tame Sajana (2010) are other commercial hits.

 

Gangani make films on rural themes, targeting the rural audience and he is regarded as one among the successful commercial film directors of Gujarati cinema. Most recently in 2015 he made his Bollywood debut as a producer and director through the film - Bezubaan Ishq. The movie starred Mugdha Godse, Sneha Ullal and Nishant Malkani in lead roles and was released on 3 July 2015. But the movie went unnoticed.

 

Gangani belongs to Talaja of Bhavnagar district, Gujarat. He moved to Surat in 1973 in search of a job and started writing short stories at his spare time. Slowly he started writing film scripts and forayed to film editing as well. He started his own production house Gangani Film Production Pvt. Ltd in 1989. As a film director Man Sayba Ni Mediye (1999) was his debut flick. The movie was released under his home production and he wrote its script and lyrics also. The movie was a silver jubilee hit and won seven state awards in Gujarat. Since then he went on to produce and direct many Gujarati films based on rural themes which became commercially successful. Maiyar ma mandu nathi lagtu in 2001 was a golden jubilee hit and bagged 11 state awards. His 2003 movie Mandvda ropavo mana raj bagged nine state awards.
