Jasbir Jassi Biography

Jasbir Jassi is a popular Punjabi pop singer. From the album, Dil Le Gayee, released in 1998 he became a popular singer nationwide. He has released 8 albums till now. His songs on ‘Kudi’ (girl) are immensely popular. Dil le gayee kudi Gujarat ki and Kudi kudi are chartbusters of late 90’s. He has featured in these videos as well. His released albums include - Channa Ve Teri Channani (1993), ‘Dil Le Gayee’ (1998), ‘Kudi Kudi’ (1999), ‘Nishani Pyar Di’ (2001), ‘Just Jassi’ (2003), ‘Mukhda Chann Varga’ (2004), ‘Akh Mastani’ (2007) and Jassi - Back with a Bang, the latest released in the year 2010. He is highly influenced by Ustad Shaukat Ali Khan and Baba Kashmira Singh in singing.

 

From childhood days, Jassi used to play harmonium. He quit studies and learnt music under V.S. Jolly and Puran Shah Koti. Later he took Masters Degree in classical vocal music from Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. He started his musical journey by participating in musical plays. He recorded his songs for Punjabi movies like Passport and Zakhmi. He sang for remixed collection of songs for the album - Balle Balbiro Balle. In 1993, his first album, Channa Ve Teri Channani was released. But his first big break was Dil le gayee released in the year 1998. With this single album, he became a very popular Punjabi pop singer and success touched his feet. Then at regular intervals, he released his albums and remained in limelight as well.

 

The inspiration of his first major hit song, Dil le gayee kudi Gujarat ki was from his real love story. The song was penned when he lost his love, a girl belonging to Gujarat. However this single song helped him to reach stardom that he has dreamt always. Jasbir was featured in the promotional video of the movie, Patiala house. He debut silver screen with the movie, 'Khushiyaan' released in the year 2011, which happened to be the last performance of Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh and renowned comedian Vivek Shauq.
