Jamuna Rani Biography 
Jamuna Rani is a prolific and prominent singing voice of south Indian film industry who has contributed over 6,000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Sinhala languages. She started singing at the age of 7. Rani is the daughter of private officer K. Varadarajulu and violinist K. Droupathy. She was a much sought after playback singer in the 1950s till mid-1960 and owns many memorable songs in her credit. She has worked with all leading music directors of the industry during this period. Jeevaname Gamana, Pem Kekula Pipi, Seeth Sulangada, Preethiyen Sathutin, Dhutudha Indala, Premalokaya Niveegiyaa and Prema Gange are among her memorable hits.
Jamuna was born on May 17th, 1938, as the daughter of K. Varadarajulu, an officer in a private company, and K. Droupathy, a violinist. Rani's initial acquaintance with the film industry happened in the year 1945 when she was only 7. She rendered her voice for a song of Telugu movie Thyagaya as a child artist. As a female adult playback singer, her first work was for a Tamil film Valayapathy (1952) of Modern Theatres. Asayum, En Nesamum...' for the Tamil film Gulebakaavali (1955) was one of her early hits. She sung for Sinhala language for the first time in the year 1953. The movie was Sujatha, with music director Ananda Samarakoon. Later her popular Sinhala songs were recorded for the movies - Warada Kageda (1954), Seda Sulang (1955), Mathalan (1955), Suraya (1957), and Vana Mohini (1958). Seda Sulang was one among the best.
She has extensively toured many foreign countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, England, France, Germany, Switzerland and UK with her stage shows. Tamil nadu government honoured her with the 'Kalaimaamani' award in 1998 and the 'Aringnar Annadurai' award for 2002.
