Jalal Agha Biography

Jalal Agha was a Bollywood actor, best known as the artist performed in the cabaret song of Sholay, Mehbooba Oh Mehbooba. He performed as a banjo player aside Helen and the voice was rendered by none other than its music director, R. D. Burman. 'Sama hai Suhana suhana' from bollywood movie ' Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani' is another popular song pictured on this actor. Once again, its music was given by R. D. Burman and sung by Kishore Kumar. He appeared mostly in character roles and guest appearances.

 

He was the son of popular comedian of yesterdays, Agha most known for the role in 1960 film Ghunghat. Jalal Agha is a graduate from prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He made his debut as a child artist through the historic Indian movie, Mughal-E-Azam. He played the child role of Prince Jahangir, whose adult role was later played Dilip Kumar. As an adult actor, K.A. Abbas's Bambai Raat Ki Bahon Mein (1967) was his debut movie. Later he appeared in more than 60 movies, most notably in supporting roles. Yaadom ke baarat, Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani, Garam Hawa, Karz, Dil Akhir Dil Hai, Saat Hindustani and Thodi Si Bewafai are his most noticed roles. Since late 1960’s, till early 1990’s he was active in film industry doing supporting roles.

 

He has also appeared in a few English language movies like Bombay Talkie (1970), Gandhi (1982), Kim (1984) and The Deceivers (1988). In 1989 he scripted and directed one Hindi movie – Goonj. He passed away in 1995 survived by two kids. He has appeared in ‘Pan Parag’ Commercial of Doordarshan in the 1980’s.
