Jaideep Sahni Biography

Jaideep Sahni is a popular screenwriter and lyricist of Bollywood. He works as creative producer also. He is most known for the movies – Chak de India, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Company, Bunty Aur Babli and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, for which he wrote screenplay. In 2002, Company earned him two Filmfare awards – one for best story and the second one for best dialogue. He has also won Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay for the super comedy of Anupam Kher and Boman Irani, Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006). He has also worked as lyricist of Palash Sen’s pop band – Euphoria. As a screen writer his debut movie was Ram Gopal Varma’s Jungle in the year 2000, starring Urmila and fardeen Khan in the leading roles. Though the movie got negative responses from critics it was declared hit at box office.

Jaideep Sahni was born and brought up in Delhi and among friends, he was popularly known as JD. He was not interested in movies that time and a silent and intelligent boy during Engineering classes. He then became the lyricist of Palash Sen’s rock band and his inspiration to enter the screenplay field was got through the screenplay of ‘Gandhi’ that he got from a book stall. His first script was for movie Jungle and it received moderate success too. He wrote its lyrics as well. His second movie was again for Ram Gopal Varma’s camp and the movie was Company. It was well received and Jaideep Sahni won Filmfare awards for its script as well as dialogues. His association with Yash Raj Films resulted in Bunti aur Bubly, the first solo hit of Abhishek Bachchan.

He tasted the sweet of success with Shah Rukh Khan’s Chakde India and Khosle ka Ghosla. However Madhuri Dixit’s come back movie ‘Aaja Nachle’ was a failure at box office. His script for Ranbir Kapoor’s movie - Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year was appreciated though the movie failed at box office. Now he is working on the script of Shudd desi romance.

As a lyricist his best works include – Barf khushi mein of Ek ajnabi, Bhoot hai koi yaahaa of Bhoot, Bore bore of Bluff master and Bus ek soch of Tere bin ladein. His other movies are Junglee, Dum mao dum, Bunty aur babli, Salam Namaste and Johny Gaddar.
