Jai Bhagwan Biography

Jai Bhagwan is an Indian sportsman who practices the game of boxing. He has won Asian Championships twice and bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games 2010. He represented India in the boxing event at 2012 London Olympics.

 

He was born on 11th May 1985 in a farming family in Haryana. His father is a State Government employee in low rank. During the early days of his training he had to be satisfied with the borrowed shoes and borrowed track suits. When he was 11 years old, he joined the Sports Authority of India at Hissar.

 

He initially was working as a police constable in Haryana Police Department. Later he got employment in railways as a ticket examiner and then again in the police department as an inspector. After getting bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games he got the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

 

He failed in the first qualifier round for 2008 Olympic Games and his injury kept him away from the second qualifier. He then won a medal in the 2009 World Championships and got silver medal in Asian Championships also. He should have got gold in the Commonwealth Games but could get only bronze due to his foul play.

 

Everyone guessed that his boxing career is over with this but his performance at the AIBA World Championships in which he reached quarterfinals made him enter 2012 Olympics. In the Olympic game he competed in the lightweight 60 kg men’s category and lost to Gani Zhailauov in the pre-quarterfinals.

 

He married Milu Lamba of Gurgaon in 2012 who is a dentist with BDS degree. His coach was Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu. He has also appeared in reality game show by Shahrukh Khan, Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout.
