J. P. Dutta Biography

J.P. Dutta is a famous producer and director who is popular for patriotic and war movies. His movies give respect to Indian soldiers and military force a lot. Of all his movies, multi-star cast movie Border is most popular. This movie based on India-China war was released in 1997, on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Indian Independence. Both the movie as well as the track – Sandese aate hain were immensely popular and boosted a lot, patriotic feelings in the hearts of Indians at the occasion of golden jubilee celebrations of Independence. His filmography includes these movies too – Umrao Jaan (2006), Khatriya, Hatyaar, Batwara, Gulami and Yatheem. He became active in Bollywood since middle 1980’s and still busy with new ideas. He is one among the most reputed celebrities of Bollywood; and his short temper is also famous!

J.P. Dutta is the son of screenplay writer and director of yesterdays – O.P. Dutta. He has also written the scripts of his son’s movies – Border and LOC Kargil. J.P. Dutta’s wife Bindiya Goswami was a popular actress of Bollywood during 70’s and 80’s. Apart from Border, he is also known for his movies – Refugee and LOC Kargil, though both of them were not well accepted as Border. LOC Kargil consisting of the biggest star cast ever happened on Bollywood screen, about 10 heroes and heroines was a big flop at box office. Refugee however received moderate success and it marked the beginning of careers of Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor – children of stars of yesterdays.

J.P. Dutta produces movies under his own banner and it’s named JP films. Among all movies produced under this banner, Border (1997) was most successful. Not only that, this movie accumulated lot of awards from Filmfare, Screen awards and National awards too. Border received National Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration in the year 1998. This movie assembled a huge star cast of Sunil Shetty, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Akshay Khanna, Pooja Bhatt, Sharbani Mukherjee and Rakhi.

He has also remade Umrao Jaan with Aiswarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan in the leadind roles. Through Aiswarya was presented beautiful, she couldn’t repeat the success of Rekha in 1980 movie. J.P. Dutta’s movies are excellent in music scores too and Anu Malik gives his excellent tunes to his movies.
