J. J. Valaya Biography

J. J. Valaya is a famous fashion designer and couturier from New Delhi. He is the co-founder of House of Valaya, a luxury fashion and lifestyle house. He started this fashion house alongside his brother T. J. Singh in 1992. He is also a founding member of Fashion Design Council of India FDCI and the first global brand ambassador of Crystal giant Swarovski. In additional to designing clothes for both men and women, he also designs bridal collections and party wear. He is a fine art photographer who released his first book, Decoded Paradox in 2011. He has completed 22 years in the fashion industry.

Jagsharan Jit Singh Ahluwalia, shortened as J. J. Valaya was born on October 8, 1967 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. As his father served in Indian army, his childhood was spent at different places across India. He graduated in commerce in aim to become a charted accountant. But his passion to Indian art and its beauty prompted him to join National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. He graduated in the year 1991. Then for a brief period, he trained under Rohit Khosla, one of the leading fashion designers in the early 1990’s. In 1992, he started fashion house, ‘House of Valaya’ alongside his elder brother T. J. Singh. The key factors of the success of this fashion house were Valaya’s creative vision and his brother’s organizational abilities and launched JJ Valaya, Studio Valaya and Valaya Home-Life under the brand name, J. J. Valaya.

In 2003, he launched his pret line. Valaya’s collections have been showcased not only in Indian metro cities but also many foreign cities like Dubai. His designed clothes are wore by leading Bollywood actors like Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor and international celebrities like Joseph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett.
